All along the front line from Oise to Argonne an underground life developed in a plentiful of shelters used to protect the troops as quarters, infirmaries or even chapels. Americans as well as all armies left numerous remnants of their staying particularly in the Aisne region.
When all the battleground traces will have vanished only stone carvings, graffities, and drawings will stay in the quarries as evidences of that period.
